About Us

Founded In 1990, LA CENTRE for Active Seniors is a non-profit community agency that has proudly served vulnerable seniors with critical Food Security, Including community food bank and door-to-door food delivery for the most vulnerable, and Social Programs, Including variety of fitness classes to improve physical health, wide range of seniors education to promote mental health, leverage technology for fun gaming and entertainment, on-site special events with live music, and our most requested activity – external, large-group field trips encompassing cultural, historical, food markets, site-seeing, nature, and much more!

In our efforts to grow and engage our growing community, Loyola Arrupe Centre for Seniors rebranded in 2021 with a new operating name “LA CENTRE for Active Seniors”. This new name reflects the attitude of the Centre; promoting active and independent lifestyles! LA CENTRE for Active Seniors is a community based Senior’s Centre.

Since opening in 1990, LA CENTRE for Active Seniors has been an oasis for people 55 and older by serving their emotional, physical, recreational, and social needs for over 30 years. It is through these consistent and reliable offerings that the Centre has continued to evolve to its present day.

2000-2012

Incorporated as autonomous organization

Established 55 Rankin as Main Site

2015-2018

Transition from period of uncertainty to prosperity

CCAT funding increases a key enabler to growth and expansion

2019-2020

LA Centre now in 4 sites with 500+ seniors

Board developed new Strat Plan for 2020-2023


COVID-19 hit March 2020 resulting in dramatic shift from on-site, in-person to virtual and remote


Significant increase in service clients numbers 500+ individual seniors

2021-2022

Moving towards pandemic recovery stage and reintroduction of in-person programming

New Board followed by new ED - first FT ED at the Centre
